Even if you only have one tree on your property, you should always check to see if there are any dangers with allowing it to remain upright. Perhaps it is near a set of power lines, or where you park your cars, or even close to the residence. Even scarier, it could be near the area where your children play.
Regardless of the reason, if that tree came down unexpectedly you could be in serious financial turmoil, not to mention annoying property damage and even a grave life and death situation. Therefore, always take a minute to detect the warning signs that your tree should come down when you say so, and not when nature says so. As the old adage goes, it is better to be proactive than reactive.
Leaning – Even though a lot of trees don’t go straight, if the lean is too considerable then sooner or later larger branches or the entire trunk will break away due to being too top heavy.
Decaying trunks – Pockets of rotting wood can surface within the trunk itself. Peeling bark can be an indication of this as well, especially where the main branches meet the trunk.
Deadwood – Sometimes branches die while still connected to the trunk. This can spread the decay into the rest of the tree, or fall on their own.
Multiple trunks – When the original trunk breaks off into two separate trunks during growth, it can cause structural issues as the tree grows larger.
Unwanted companions- If you see new fungi, such as mushrooms growing on trees, the growth could be a telltale sign that your tree is rotting on the interior.
Of course, if you are unsure whether or not it’s rotting, you can always rely on the experts. Big Foot Tree Service of Wayne, NJ would be happy to come to your property and accurately diagnose the current state of your tree(s). Please contact us today for more information.
